Aggressive Tactics Pay Off in a Contentious Litigation
In this matter, a wrongful termination suit against a municipal employer, we aggressively opposed the plaintiff’s motions, including one for partial summary judgment. The plaintiff’s counsel was seeking a six-figure settlement. During litigation, plaintiff counsel was awarded more than $14,000 after filing a motion for partial summary judgment. We vehemently opposed her motion and appealed the judgment. At trial, we affirmatively argued several key pre-trial motions on behalf of our defendant employer. Following our arguments and immediately after a jury was impaneled, the plaintiff reluctantly agreed to accept a very low settlement offer. Our client’s contribution to settlement was $15,000, a fraction of the judgment a jury would have likely awarded this sympathetic plaintiff.
