A Worcester lawyer is among 12 people named yesterday by U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy to a committee to recommend candidates to be the next U.S. attorney and U.S. marshal.

Sarah B. Christie, a senior partner at Hassett & Donnelly, was named on the recommendation of U.S. Rep. James P. McGovern, D-Worcester. Ms. Christie, a 1994 Georgetown University Law Center graduate, is a member of the Massachusetts and Worcester Bar associations and the Defense Research Institute.

Ms. Christie "is a highly respected and accomplished litigator" who will be an asset to the advisory committee chaired by Michael Mone, a partner at Esdaile, Barrett & Esdaile in Boston, according to Christopher Philbin, chief of staff to Mr. McGovern.

Mr. McGovern "feels very strongly that the Worcester County Bar should be included in important decisions affecting the federal judicial system" and appreciates Mr. Kennedy's recognition of Ms. Christie's qualifications to help in the decision, Mr. Philbin said.
